Amer Stars again

Having been put into bat on one of the greenest wickets we managed 146 all out in 44 overs. Having seen the first 5 overs of our innings (and we were 2 down) the bowlers felt 120 could be enough on that wicket. Amer took over in the field and finished with figures of 18-7 to bowl them out for 45.

Mohammed Lets His Bat Do The Talking

A shy Mohammed Azam hit a superb hundred to set up a winning draw. As we all know Mo does not often say much and is a reserved character (not) but on this occasion his bat cracked a few jokes at the expensive of Bronze. Well batted Sir the school kids will be proud of you!

Mahroof and Warner Set Up Thumping Win

Sheldon won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a flyer and at one stage they were 60-0 from 9 over until Mahroof Azam and Omar came on to put them in a spin. Mahroof who is arguably the best spinner in the league at 2xi level took 18-2-53-5 with Omar taking 57-2 from 18 overs.
Our 1st team ringer Alex was is the side because of strong availability took over the show with the bat. Alex made them look ordinary in reaching 91 not out.

Kam-ran Shines on Miserable Day

On a rain affected miserable day, fifteen year old, Kamran led Ashfield to a respectable 204-8 from 43 overs. Kam put together a superb 91, his highest score for the 2nd XI. He is a pleasant and by far the most confident young cricketer that I have played with and on this occasion his bat did the talking.
Having been on and off for rain it left Bedworth needing 154 from 33 overs to get a winning draw and they managed 170-9 along the way seventeen year old Qasim helped himself to 44-5

2nd Game and Disaster Strikes

Atherston is a long way to go to get a hiding but thats exactly what happend to us. On a warm day we won the toss and elected to bat and from there things got worse. To cut a long story short we were bowled out for 89 and they reached the target with 4 wickets down. M Azam bowling pretty well.

If the batsman can't take responsibility then it will be a long season. Some of us played as if it was a 20-20 game.

I am not a bad looser but the least written about this match the better!

Respectable start V Nuneaton

Our opening game was against one of the stronger sides in the division and we certainly held our own and perhaps should have kept them 40-50 runs lower than what they got.
Having won the toss we elected to bowl first and soon reduced the opposition to 126-5 but things just got a little bit away from us in the last 20 overs and they finished on 218-9. With Sooty and Nigel both out injured we were found wanting in the closing overs. The batting started almost where we left off last season and wickets again fell at regular intervals and we finished on 183-9, Tahir top scoring with 34

In writing the summary you have to mention the form of young Tom Bartlett who could easily have broken a few club records if he had been in 2nd XI for the entire season.

The rest of the match reports are as follows:

V Bournville

We won the toss and elected to bat and managed a below par 183-10 with Omar Shah top scoring with 43. They knocked off the runs in the 42 over with 6 wickets down.

V Kings Heath

There was confusion with the start times! The league handbook stated 1pm and our club handbook had a start time of 1.30pm – so typically there were only 3 of us at the ground at 12.45pm so they claimed the toss and asked us to bat first.

It was one of our strongest batting displays and we accumulated 214-10 from 48 overs. Main contributor Omar Shah (55). The bowling was as accurate as it had been all season and Riad Hosain – playing against his old team was at the receiving end of some banter from Kings Heath but he answered them in true fashion by getting 9-0-28-4 to go with his 23no. We eventually bowled them out for 146 from 41 overs.

V Bedworth

Another cracker! They won the toss and set us a target of 202 to win. Yasir Shah bowled with pace to claim 15-2-64-4

At one stage we were cruising to victory with 160-4 from 37 overs but with Qasim Shah (62) getting out it caused the castle to tumble. We were in it right up to the end where we needed 3 to win off the last ball with Yasir facing. He did all he could but top edged one to 3rd man and was held out. Only if it was a yard either side of the fielder it would have been 4 – the game is not played with ‘if and but’s’ otherwise we would have been top of the table.

V Atherstone

It was the last game of the season and about 9 of us turned up physically but not mentally. I said enough to the lads on the day so I will keep this short. They batted 1st and totalled 288-6 – we dropped approximately 9 catches.

The batting was not much better and we managed 195-10 with young Kamran Qamar 55no and Humais Butt (47).
