On a damp and dull day we lost the toss and Kings Heath asked us to bat first. Early conditions helped their bowlers and we lost wickets consistently. However, Tom was the only one to show any kind of resistance with a solid 60. We ended on 172-9 from 50 overs. Our bowlers were again asked to get the batters out of jail. It should not come as a surprise to anyone to hear that Nigle and Sooty between them conceded just 40 runs from 25 overs and took 3 wickets. The rest of the bowlers chipped in and took wickets regularly and eventually bowled them out for 129-10 from 46 overs. It was another good win but the batting needs to improve as we come up against better opposition. The bowlers need to take note of the number of extras that we are giving away. They will end up costs us if we can’t sort this problem out.

Graveyard Comes Alive With Tense Win
Match winner Sooty fielding at backward-45 on the one ! (Also Pictured Tommy behind the sticks, Andy Crossley at Point and CB at slip)Everyone who played or watched the game against Bablake will tell you that it will go down as the game of the season. The graveyard came alive on Saturday 9th June 2007 with a tense finish that saw Moseley Ashfield win by 3 runs! On a warm day we won the toss we decided to bat first. At one point it appeared to have been the wrong decision because within the 1st 20 overs we were 77-7 with some of us getting overconfident and playing shots more suited to a 20-20 game. However, Ray (Iltaf Rehman) batting at number 8 to turn things around with a responsible 65no. It gave us a competitive score of 182-10 in 43 overs. The opposition started well and were 99-2 from 30overs. The breakthrough came when Ray had their opener ct and bowled in the 31st over and from this point on wickets fell at regular intervals. Abu chipped in with 3-28 and it left them needing 34 with 4 wickets in hand from 17 overs. At this point, Sooty who had been pumped up all day took over. He took their 7th wicket with a ct and bowled and Ashfield could smell an unlikely victory. This now left them needing 18 from 8 overs with 3 wickets in hand. Ray took wicket number 8 and Sooty removed their 9th man. It was now down to 3 runs from 6 overs. Up stepped psycho (Martin Sutton) Sooty (Almost Stuart Pearce style when he scored THAT penalty for England). Sooty bowling at their number 7, who thought he could finish it in one hit, drove it firmly back only to see this ‘spring chicken’ pull it out of thin air. He took the catch and dropped to his knees. In taking the final wicket the celebrations from the lads were perhaps more notorious with a game of football than cricket as Sooty was lost with 10 men pilling on top of him. Bet you’ve never had that before Sooty! Or may be he has?

Bartlett Shows Older Ed's The Way
Seventeen year old Tom Bartlett showed the maturity of an experienced cricketer with a superb 105 against Old Edwardians. Having been put into bat under helpful bowling conditions Tom, who opened the batting, looked determined to make his mark on the game. He took his time to see off the new ball but then accelerated just at the right time playing shots all round the wicket with 11 four’s and a 6. He had scored 35 at the drinks break (25 overs) but then his 100 came up in the 44th over. It was his maiden century for the club and true to his word he called his father to buy a round of drinks for the lads! In the end we managed a competitive 208-7 from 50 overs. The bowlers took a while to get into their stride and at one stage the opposition were 67-1 but our secret weapon in the form of leg spinner Riad Hosein destroyed their middle order with figures of 8-2-18-4. This included bowling their captain behind his legs as the tried to sweep – almost Warney style! After that up stepped Ray (Iltaf Rehman) for his second spell and cleaned up the tail finishing with 9-2-24-4.
