If I was running out of words to describe the tense finishes that the 2ndxi have been involved with this season it’s only taken me over 2 weeks to write this one. Is it because we lost? Am I a bad looser? No far from it – I just don’t like to loose!
It should not come as a surprise to you when I tell you that under helpful bowling conditions we lost the toss and they asked us to bat first. Arguably they had the best opening attack that we have faced in the league to date. Yet again it was the same story where we lost wickets steadily and they bowled us out for 122 from 46 overs with only three of us making double figures.
With the wicket still damp and the strong bowling attack that we had we all believed that we could bowl them out. So confidence was high in the changing room. True to form ‘psycho Sooty’ (Martin Sutton) who has been bowling out of his skin all season put us right back in the game by removing their top four batsmen. Soon we reduced them to 76-6 and the target of 122 seemed a long way away. Ray and Nigel chipped in with 2 wickets apiece and that left them on 102-9 but in the meantime their number 7 had been batting well while wickets fell around him. The lads fought hard but in the end just on this occasion it proved a little too much us. Credit to their guy who finished on 52 no.
